Sony Ericsson W830i [review]

Are you planning to buy a cellphone and addicted to brand name of Sony Ericsson ? Then go for W830i ! Sony Ericsson W830i is a triband phone that has triple face according to which it can be used as mobile phone, Walkman® and Digital Camera.

W830i - a phone that touches your senses

Although all phones do have this feature but when it comes to walkman its Sony that rocks no matter if you are an i-pod fan. Considering the specifications of this phone it has a 512Mb Memory Stick PRO Duo™ with the Walkman® player 2.0.

With this phone, you can download music, videos etc from its PlayNow™ service which Sony has expanded recently. The another bit of this phone is its Music recognition technology by which it allows you to track a song by TrackID™.

Coming to the third face of the phone, the built-in digital camera in this phone has 2.0 megapixel with 4x Zoom. This phone is compatible for connectivity with EDGE, GPRS, WAP, Java, Bluetooth and USB. This is an Upcoming model for Sony India and i will update this blog post if its launched.

P.S: I like the colour theme of this phone coz it matches my blog and website perfectly..

Hey the difference b/w 830 and 850 is that 850i has 3G technology. It has another cam in front. It comes with 1GB in built card.

The press release of 830i says it will have 1GB card. However the actual spec page says it will have only 512MB.

I cant tell you how desperate I am to see 830i in the market.
I however seriously doubt if the price is that less . . It is more feature packed than 810i and that costs 15000/- this will easily be in the region of 18000/-. Please correct me if I am wrong. I want to be wrong!!!

Sony W830i will cost you Rs. 17,200/- with bill. If, you buy it without bill then you will get it around 15,800/-.

I bought this set 15days ago only and it is great. Battery backup still not upto the mark but I hope it will become better after 10 - 15 recharges.

That depends on the memory card you are going to buy with… the maximum is i think you can use upto 2gb memory pro stick which does not reduce the performance of the system…

I wanted to buy a new phone and wanted to decide between w830i and moto rokr e6. I like motorokr e6 much more becoz I am bored of these normal phones, I wanted something different. Also SE has the same OS in all its phone so that makes them quite boring to use.Is there a lot of difference between both these phones, so that I should change my decision and buy w830i. Howz the performance of motorokr e6? and its sound quality(compared to an N73 as I have heard that only).

hey motorola fones are cheaper than SE but as i said earlier please go for W series …. comparing nokia (which probably has software problem, vulnerable to viruses etc) SE is exempted from all these problems… but the video and image quality as far as now there is no competition for N series. N series phones have Best video quality..even sony cannot overtake N series video quality

I am verymuch botherd about the quality of music. questioning about its adapatability of 4gb cards without hanging or intercepting other peroformances. Is it all the same headset for highend mobiles and just basic phones, sony ericsson is providing. whether it has usb adaptability?

You can add only upto 2gb memory card.. yeah it has usb support and obviously sony gives different headset for high end and basic mobiles…

one week back i bought W830i @ 16,000 in Hyd/India(I think this is the best price).
I saw only 30 (missed+diled+received) calls in the call registry. Even it’s good one but dont know why they gave less storage for call registry.

hey shankar i bought a w830i for 15700 rs and the dealer told me that the sound of that model was more than w550i !!i would like to know that is the sound more than that of w550i coz my cell is giving sound from speaker that is half of that of w550i…i think it has some problem also.. sometime when i go out of range it turns off and u cant turn it on….i m fed up of this mobile

hi iam planing to buy a w850i sony ericson,now using a lg4410 mobile the memory is too low and a lot of limitions for message tone only 4 previously recorded tones i think its because of very low in built memory as i came to know that sony w850i has only 16 mb inbuilt mem and 1 gb external memory is that completely use ful for audio /visual usage.kindly answer me ,cos i have to decide on telling my friend to buy it from u.k.

No the sound doesn’t come that loud of 550i. many of my friends heard me saying this but i experienced myself that this is not much louder that 550i

I have a W830i phone and i have the following problems
1. Low sound output, especially with headset.
2. Call Ringtone not played thru headset (that was very disappointing)
3. Sound quality not as effective as even W700i especially megabass

Is there any upgrade available???

you need to tweak settings and explore it for high sound input but its much lower then 850, ringtones are not played through headset dude. you can check the sony site. they give update for your phone firmware which you can do automatically by connecting your mobile to computer and installing the required cd and installing it.

search mobile9.com they have custom softwares for your phone which helps syncing of messages or try zyb.com

n73 is good phone with symbian OS with great multitasking, but symbian almost unstable, poor music quality, and SE has Walkman branded, but absolutly diferent Software OS with Nokia. so, if want a music chose SE “W” branded, if you want nice sotfware choose nokia with S40 5th edition.

i just recently bought w830i, after two days i recon that the mic tends too turn off if i held it too hard against my ear/s, hmm, anyway i service it and they said i need to leave it for 3 days…anyway can 830 uses the 4 giga psp mem card which i saw comes for about Rp 350.K / 37 usd in my local game shop
